Frequently Asked Questions

Gourmet Express Personal Chef Service answers all of your questions!

Why does the chef meet with us in our home before starting the service?

The chef meets with you in your home to go over the food questionnaire in person, to give an idea of how much room is needed for storage in your refrigerator and freezer, and to make sure that the stove, oven and sink all work correctly.

How much does the service cost?

The cost of the home meal replacement service will vary depending on the number of meals being prepared, your dietary restrictions and preferences, and where you live in the Metroplex. The price range is usually between $14.00 and $24.00 per meal/per person (about the same as you would pay at most casual dining restaurants).

Does the price include groceries?

The price of the service includes all food and labor.

What are the chef’s qualifications?

The chef has a B.S. in Business Administration, a Diploma in Culinary Arts, and a Certificate in Catering and Gourmet Cooking.  The chef also carries a certificate from the State of Texas Department of Health for Food Protection Management.

What kind of containers do you use?

Gourmet Express uses disposable Pactiv containers that can go into the freezer, microwave, and oven (except for the plastic dome lid).  This type of container is used for the convenience and safety of our clients.

How long will the chef be at my home?

The chef is normally at your home between three and five hours (based on cooking for two adults).  It will take slightly longer for additional meals being prepared.

Where does the chef get the recipes?

All of the recipes that are used are from the United States Personal Chef Association.  These recipes have been tested in their kitchens to hold their quality after they have been frozen and thawed out before being reheated.  If there is a recipe requested by the client that is not in the USPCA manual, the chef will test the recipe before making it for you.

Where does the chef shop for the food?

Most of the ingredients used are purchased at local supermarkets (Tom Thumb or Kroger).  If a specific ingredient is not carried by one of these supermarkets, there are specialty shops, such as Central Market, that carry the remaining ingredients.

Why does the chef cook in my home?

Due to city regulations all food must be prepared in the client’s home to consider the business a service.  If the food were prepared at another building, that building would have to comply with all city regulations for food preparation.

How often does the chef cook the same meal?

The same meal will not be duplicated for at least six months (if you are on a four-week rotation) and usually not for one year.  You may, of course, always specifically request a certain meal to be duplicated at any time
